I was born & raised on a farm in New Mexico, 17 miles from the West Texas border. By the age of 16 I had two art pieces displayed at the MOMA. I was quite young when I entered University and left home. I finished University with Psychology and Sociology degrees. During University I began my flying career in competition aerobatic airplanes as well as displayed in several art installation projects. By the age of 20 I started my first small business, a catering company for private jets.
My flying and love for indigenous cultures has taken me on an unreturnable life journey of traveling throughout Africa, South & Central America, North America, & Europe.
In the fall of 1994 I landed in Meribel, France. There I became a sort of "bush pilot" for a local flying club & started my second business; orgainzing ski trips for American pilots interested in High Altitude flying.
In the late fall of 1998, and through the ski trips, I found myself in Vail, Colorado. It is here I started my third business in combination with the tours. I also fell in love with white water kayaking & encountered my new travel companion, Murphy pictured to the right.
By the summer of 2000 my love for nature, together with the free time my businesses' provided, led me to Sustainable Building. I received my post-graduate studies in Permaculture, Vastu Design, and Land Art at EcoVersity in Santa Fe, New Mexico. I apprenticed building straw bale homes in Utah and studied under Robert & Paula LaPorte with EcoNest Builders.
In 2004 I co-commenced a development of a fully sustainable resort community in Costa Rica. In conjunction, I studied on several organic farms & began certification in the natural health field. In 2006 I opened La Gardenia Art Gallery & Supper Club.
Alongside my Design profession, I periodically organize & guide outdoor meditation & relaxation retreats, as well as art related workshops. You can find this information here & at www.skivailrental.com. In my free time I have been writing a fictional book and taking my time earning a Doctorate in Naturopathy. I should be 67 when I finish.....
Currently, Murphy and I enjoy living between Zurich, Switzerland & Colorado. Whether you are interested in Sustainability, Art & Design, or Natural Health; I thank you for taking your time to be interested and I look forward to meeting you,
Penelope Salcido
